However, as with many begonia species, determining their point of origin can be challenging and requires further research and study.

It’s worth noting that this species is delicate, and may require a stake for support to prevent it from falling under its own weight. Additionally, the stems are not particularly robust, but they do branch off frequently, resulting in a bushy and attractive display.
61. Begonia ‘Frosty’
Begonia Frosty is a unique plant with foliage that displays fine and thin main veins, making them less pronounced than those of the Looking Glass variety. It also has fine, furry features on the leaf surface, similar to the Maurice Amey species. 63. Begonia Immense

64. Begonia Martin’s Mystery
Originally known as Begonia ‘U192’, Martin’s Mystery Begonia is a cultivar believed to be native to Bicol, Philippines. It was brought into cultivation by Martin Johnson, a begonia grower, although little information is available about this plant. The foliage of Martin’s Mystery Begonia features metallic pink highlights with slightly darker green at the main veins and a burgundy underside, along with furry petioles. This is a Trailing Begonia, meaning that it will eventually develop long, twisting vines that may snap under their own weight if they become too lengthy. Martin’s Mystery Begonia is an excellent plant for hanging baskets, as it tends to become bushy and has a cascading effect when grown in this way.
65. Begonia – U514
The Begonia U514 displays dark bronze-green foliage that undergoes a color shift depending on the light intensity it receives. In shady areas, the foliage appears more green while it takes on a more bronze hue when exposed to bright light. Additionally, the coloration and veining of the foliage vary in different light environments, with vibrant red hues emerging under direct sunlight. Due to their fragility, the leaves of this plant can snap easily if accidentally brushed, as they lack flexibility. As such, it is advisable to keep them in a less movement-prone area within the garden.

Begonia Phuthoensis, also known as the spider-web begonia, is a remarkable species. It is generally considered to be hardier compared to its Rex begonia counterpart. However, it is important to note that too much sunlight can cause damage to the leaves, resulting in burned edges and potentially affecting the upright stalk and cup. The flowers of this species are small and white, with winged-like bells when it is about to bear fruit. While propagation using seeds has yet to be successful, this rhizome begonia is content to sit in one corner of the garden for now.
69. Begonia – U309
Begonia U309 is a Rex Begonia that has a less vibrant color compared to most other types of Rex Begonias, with colors similar to most kampung begonias. The red tones are mostly in the background and not as prominent as in most Cameron – Highland Types. The colors are repetitive, with the center and border edges having the same color as the mid veins, which are of a dark burgundy tone. The foliage is oval and grows generously big. If grown in shade, the tones appear diluted and span out big. However, if given good strong light, the background takes on an olive green tone with white speckles.
70. Begonia – U400
Begonia U400 is a type of Rhizome Begonia that features large oval leaves with a single pointed edge. The leaves have a silver coloration with greenish-grey veins and borders, and the stem of the leaves is covered with fine hairs.
71. Begonia ‘Silver Queen’
Begonia Silver Queen is a Rex Begonia that lacks prominent red tones, unlike most other Rex Begonias. The color pattern consists of repetitive silver tones at the center and the border edges, with a mid-band of greenish-grey veins. The foliage is oval and can grow quite large. In shaded conditions, the silver tones appear diluted and spread out, while under good strong light, the olive green notes become more prominent, and the silver in the mid-area appears more vibrant.

As the foliage matures, it tends to grow larger, and it’s a good idea to propagate trimmed leaves for spares in case the plant does not thrive in the garden.
74. Begonia Popenoei
Begonia popenoei, also known as Popenoe’s Begonia, White Begonia, or Giant Leaf Begonia, is a hardy rhizome begonia with a huge foliage structure that can grow tall and upright in the right conditions. Compared to colored Rex Begonia varieties, I find that green-leafed begonias like this one tend to do better. While it does produce a tall, upright inflorescence, I have yet to see it myself. Unlike most begonias, which are small and compact plants, this one is huge and showy, so it’s important to consider its growth size if you’re planning to grow it in your garden. Personally, I have refrained from getting this plant due to a lack of space in my own garden.
75. Begonia Emeiensis
The Large Green Begonia, categorized as a rhizome type, includes the Begonia Plebeja, Begonia Popenoei (also known as Popenoe’s Begonia), and Lotusland Hybrid Begonia, which bear strong similarities to each other. The Begonia emeiensis (also known as Mt. Emei Begonia) is the closest reference to this particular species. It is native to China’s Mt. Emei and was collected by Dan Hinkley in 1998. This rhizome begonia type has larger light green-yellow tones without any red or burgundy tones, making it similar to highland types. This bushy begonia takes up a large space, making it less ideal for small gardens. Consider the necessary space when cultivating it. Nevertheless, it is hardy and has the basic requirements similar to most begonias.
76. Begonia Sinuata
The Begonia Sinuata, also known as the Sparkling Begonia or Maple Leaf Begonia, appears to be a type of singular leaf begonia. An interesting observation is that a new leaf seems to form at the center of the leaf, making it unique and likely well-researched and studied botanically. It also produces flowers that resemble pink/white tiny inflorescences, similar to most Rex Begonia flowers in appearance.
77. Begonia Speculata
The Begonia Speculata is a Rhizome Begonia with toned-down colored foliage that resembles rugged, leather parchment material in dark gray-green tones. The foliage surface has a corrugated effect, making it unique. This begonia can fill up the whole pot by spreading its rhizome all over the surface of the pot. Its star-shaped, silvery leaves have a dark side and do not shine. It is quite hardy and can tolerate over-watering and under-watering very well. Once the plant has established itself, it becomes more stable and fits into the garden situation with minimal care. While the flowers of this plant are rare, they do appear occasionally. The flowers are pendant and cascade downward in light pink, making them interesting to note, although the plant itself is not particularly showy.
78. Begonia ‘Jive’
The Begonia ‘Jive’ or possibly ‘Baby Dress’ is a handsome begonia, but its true identity remains elusive. The greener the begonia, the hardier it may seem, as it can photosynthesize easily. However, this is not always the case. The plant can be sensitive and may not survive well, as the speaker had experienced after separating too many clumps.

Begonia Black Knight is a beautiful and popular begonia hybrid. It has dark, velvety leaves that are nearly black and strikingly stand out in any setting.
